1. On a short putt, if you just aim and hit, you will end up with the ball in the hole most of the time. If you take a couple of practice swings and take two or three looks at it, you are more likely to miss
2. Check the green for subtle breaks as you walk up. You will be able to see a major turn left or right if the green is on a hill or there is a major slope. Get in your crouch and look at the ground right in front of your ball.
3. Watch your playing partners' putts. If they have same path as yours then you can get a really good read, if not you can still watch how the ball moves around the hole and that sometimes helps just as much.
4. On a short putt make sure your ball reaches the hole. A lot of golfers tap their 3-4 foot putts because they don't want to go past the hole. Never up Never In.
